Each year Great Divide Brewery in Denver, CO selects a local artist to design a new can for Denver Pale Ale that represents its namesake city. I created a series of illustrations that represented the image of the Denver that I have experienced as a resident for seven years. The illustration was a “window into the city” and the frame of a guy holding a beer in a hammock and looking out into the Denver skyline represented the laid-back attitude I feel Denver residents embody.
Sketches for the concept of the can were initially created and one was chosen by Great Divide. A final pen and ink and digitally-colored illustration was then placed in the template for the can. An illustration for the 12 pack packaging was also created and placed in a template as well. The can was then manufactured and distributed around the country.
I created two screen-printed posters and several items of merchandise for the company, including men’s and women’s t-shirts, glassware, pins, coasters, and hats.
Multiple concept sketches were created before landing on the final illustration.
